: It's up to you when to stop subdivision. If you were Pixar, you'd stop at sub-pixel accuracy. If your mesh is very fine to begin with, maybe a few rounds of subdivision is all that you need. Another possible criteria is rendering time. Perhaps you want to adapt the number of polygons rendered to the speed of the video card so that when cards improve, so does the quality of your rendering.

Interesting....Are you saying that you stop when your edges become shorter than a certain length expressed in pixels?
