I have posted a similar question on an artists forum but I though you guys (knowing how the subD algorithms work) might be able to suggest ways to get around the unslighly cracks that I'm getting. :http://cube.phlatt.net/forums/spiraloid/viewtopic.php?TopicID=1166 The problem is that the vertices along your cracks are not identified together. I think your post on the other forum mentioned this as well (welding vertices). I don't know a lot about Maya's implementation of subdivision, but your problems are definitely being caused by the vertices not being the same on each of those polygons along the crack. The connectivity of the base surface determines the connectivity of the subdivided surface. I'm not an expert Maya user so I can't tell you how to fix the problem in Maya. I just know how I would do it if I was writing my own application.
